Dancing Gorilla

Zola the western lowland gorilla is winning hearts and the Internet this week with his uninhibited and smile-inducing dance recorded on video by a keeper at the Dallas Zoo.

Talk about dancing like no one was watching!

The 14-year-old great ape is seen standing in a pool during an enrichment exercise where he at first leans down and moves his arms around in the water. But seconds later he beings to spin, then he stands up, arches his head back and wildly swings both arms in total abandon as he splashes the water in what looks like pure joy.

“That Friday feeling when your dancing gorilla’s moves go viral, wrote a Dallas Zoo official on Facebook. “We’re so proud of you, Zola, and all the happiness you’re bringing to the internet right now!”

The video, which taken Wednesday and evokes Jennifer Beals’ dance moves in the 1983 movie Flashdance, has racked up thousands of views from people who said a dancing gorilla is just what the doctor ordered.

It is hard to watch without grinning.
