Unless you’re rich, you’re screwed!

Donald Trump called the House of Representative’s version of the health care bill “mean.” Well if that was mean, this is just downright cruel.

Republicans have finally released their Senate health care bill. Republicans will argue that it is “more generous.” But in reality, the Senate bill will be at least as bad as the House bill over time.

This tweet by Health care expert Larry Levitt sums this up pretty well:

What you need to know:

  1. The Senate bill more gradually reduces federal funds provided for Medicaid expansion, cutting it to the pre-ACA funding levels by 2024. Overall, however, the cuts to Medicaid are deeper than those in the House bill. It also give governors more leeway, allowing them to choose between block grants and per-capita support for funds, as well as giving them the option to impose a work requirement for those who are not pregnant, disabled or elderly to receive Medicaid.
  2. The bill slashes Medicaid’s spending on poor Americans, so they can cut taxes for rich Americans. It’s a massive redistribution from the poor to the rich.
  3. States would be able to impose work requirements for people on Medicaid, except for the elderly, pregnant women and people with disabilities.
  4. Insurers can charge older adults five times more than younger people. ObamaCare’s only lets insurers charge older people three times more.
  5. States could apply for waivers from many of the insurance regulations — though not protections for people with pre-existing conditions and coverage for young adults.
  6. The ACA’s contentious individual mandate would be eliminated under the GOP bill, ending the tax penalty levied on those who don’t buy insurance. Other employer mandates would also be eliminated, as well as nearly all of Obamacare’s taxes.
  7. The bill would defund longtime conservative foil Planned Parenthood for one year.
  8. The bill slashes Medicaid’s spending on poor Americans, so they can cut taxes for rich Americans. It’s a massive redistribution from the poor to the rich.

Please keep all of this in mind when you’re in the voting booths in 2018 and 2020.
