Mrs. Trump had previously stated she would wait until her son, Barron Trump, finished out the remainder of the school year at a private school on New York’s Upper West Side. The family had expressed “sensitivity” about moving their son to the White House, according to Trump’s transition team.
CBS News confirmed that Barron would be attending St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland next year.
Melania is the only first lady in modern history to delay her move to the White House; she previously stated that she wanted to remain in New York so Barron could finish off the school year.
The first lady said the family is excited for Barron to attend the school, saying that it is known for its “diverse community and commitment to academic excellence.”
“The mission of St. Andrew’s is ‘to know and inspire each child in an inclusive community dedicated to exceptional teaching, learning, and service,’ all of which appealed to our family. We look forward to the coming school years at St. Andrew’s,” said the first lady in a statement.
Politico reports that according to people familiar with the family’s planning, the official move is set to take place on Wednesday, June 14.
