A man armed with a hammer attacked a police officer at Notre Dame cathedral in Paris on Tuesday, according to Reuters.
“Situation under control,” the Paris police tweeted. Officers shot and wounded the attacker who was taken to a hospital. One policeman was injured in the attack, the Paris police said.

The police also asked the public to avoid the area. The Saint-Michel metro station nearby was closed to two lines.
Around 900 tourists were locked inside the cathedral as the incident took place, according to Le Figaro.

The anti-terror prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into the attack.
